What I'm fixing

I’m fixing the way we divide and adapt existing spaces. Today, creating a new room usually requires permanent, trade-built, and waste-intensive walls.

How I'm fixing it

BIO-INFILL is developing lightweight, reversible panels made from bamboo and mycelium that people can assemble, dismantle, and reuse, making underused buildings easier to adapt with less waste and embodied carbon

Current focus

BIO-INFILL is currently in the research and development phase. This includes reviewing existing solutions, developing and testing material combinations, evaluating performance and durability, designing the panel and assembly system, producing prototypes, conducting user assembly trials, and investigating compliance, cost, and future manufacturing pathways.

In their words

What problem are you solving?
Existing buildings contain underused space, but adapting it still depends on costly trades and permanent, waste-intensive partitions. BIO-INFILL addresses the need for low-carbon, reversible interior systems by translating bamboo and mycelium from experimental materials into practical building components.
Who does it help?
BIO-INFILL helps homeowners, renters, and small housing providers who need to create or reconfigure rooms without expensive renovations, specialist trades, or permanent alterations. It can also support designers and community-housing organisations seeking adaptable, lower-waste interior systems for existing buildings.
What is the innovation?
BIO-INFILL is exploring a new bio-based, modular approach to interior construction, designed to make spaces easier to assemble, adapt, and reuse with less waste. The specific material system and connection details are currently under development.
What are your biggest hurdles?
The main hurdles are proving reliable long-term performance and moving from controlled prototypes to repeatable, cost-effective production. Industrialisation will require consistent bio-based raw materials, robust quality control, suitable manufacturing partners and equipment, efficient production times, dependable supply chains, regulatory testing and enough capital to reach pilot scale.
What do you need?
BIO-INFILL is still at an early research stage, so I’m primarily looking for mentorship, critical feedback, and connections with researchers, material specialists, and industry professionals. These relationships will help validate the problem, refine the research direction and identify future testing, prototyping, and commercialisation pathways.
Would you like to collaborate?
